Qualifications and Experience:
Dave has a BA degree, plus masters level counselling studies, primarily in Marriage and Family Therapy. He does not have a completed Masters degree. Dave has been counselling since 1987. He focusses primarily on coaching individuals, couples and families to make positive changes through individual, couple and family therapy.
After counselling with a number of agencies and organizations, Dave opened his own practice, Positive Changes in 1995. He has done further professional training in the following areas:
- Cognitive therapy related to depression, anxiety, anger management, couple counselling
- Compassion fatigue and stress
- Change management
- Solution focused counselling
- Trauma recovery
Dave has taught courses and led workshops at Grant MacEwan Community College, with community organizations and with business families throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan. He has also presented on newer counselling approaches in B.C., Manitoba and Ontario.
These courses and workshops have focused on the following topics: conflict management, effective communications, trauma recovery, anger management, change management, strengthening marriages, internet pornography, divorce recovery and single parenting.
Approach: In all settings, Dave is very protective of each individual's dignity and self-esteem and emphasizes that, while we all make mistakes, it is vital that all feel respected and not judged. He is particularly skilled at creating an environment of emotional safety, which fosters honesty and breakthroughs.
Dave is married and is the father of four adult children.
